3 Things clients look for in a stylist.

3 Things clients look for in a stylist.
Skill is everything when a potential client is looking for a stylist, Makeup artist, barber or anyone in the service  based industry. If your skill level is not up to par, consider yourself fired before you're hired.  Although skill is what may attract a person to you, it's not the only thing that's going to keep them. I made a list of 3 top things potential clients look for when looking for a new stylist.

Knowledge :

When A client is looking for a stylist, it's for 1 of 3 reasons. a. they dont know how to take care of their own hair b. they dont know how to style their hair c. They'd prefer to have someone else do it for them. Either way your potential new client is depending on you to be knowledgeable. Knowledgeable about their hair, the products you are using and educating them on the best route to take to achieve their hair and beauty goals. Education is key in any service based business and clients will always see  the difference between an educated and knowledgeable stylist versus someone who is just getting by.

    Reliability :

A potential client needs to know that you will be there when they need you.  Think about  it like this, If you needed to have your car towed and the tow service said they’re on their way and never showed up, you’d never use them again. It’s the same when it comes down to dealing with clients. Reliability is everything in a swevice based business.

    Stability :

Stability determines whether you are a first choice or 2nd string pick when it comes to gaining and retaining clients. Stability in product use, stability in location, stability in services.

      • Product use : no one wants a new product being used on them every time they come in for a service.  Yes,  you should always incorporate new and innovative products but have a stable system that your Clients know and trust. If you're going to introduce a new product to their salon hair care regimen, educate them first. This builds trust and loyalty with that client.

      • Location: I’m sure you have clients that will follow you to the end of the world and back but moving from location to location  is not a good look and it doesn’t make the client feel secure about claiming you as their stylist. Potential clients will always feel as though they need a backup plan in case you all of a sudden, move....again.

      • Services : a client expects to receive top notch service everytime. If a client has a big date coming up and would like to be at their best and you’re known for half stepping, theres a good chance that client won't allow you to perform the service in fear that  this may be one of the times you’re “not in the mood” .
These 3 factors build trustworthiness.  I didnt list trust as a factor because without  knowledge, reliability, and stability you have no trust.
