5 Reasons why Autumn is the perfect season for heat styled hair.

5 Reasons why Autumn is the perfect season for heat styled hair.

You've been seeing all of the post from hair stylist saying it's officially silk press season and the only thing that comes to mind is the fact that you won't sweat out your hair.  That is true but  Fortunately there's more reasons why Autumn, fall and Winter is the best time to heat style your hair.

  • Low Humidity

The cooler air outside will aide in keeping your cuticle closed which will allow your hair to retain moisture and beneficial nutrients.

High humidity causes the cuticle to raise and swell.

Humidity does this by causing hydrogen bonds to form between water molecules and the proteins in your hair which causes frizz, curls and expansion.

  • Less heat usage.

The less your hair swells, the less Heat you will feel the need to use to maintain your hairstyle. Less heat, less damage. Heat damages your hair by creating holes, chips, tears and cracks in the cuticle layer of your hair which is the outer layer that protects your hair strand. Heat damaged hair will not gain its strength and elasticity back that was lost from excessive heat usage and your hair will not retain moisture well because of the change in your hairs protein structure and loss of lipids. If you are not familiar with the difference between heat damaged and heat trained hair, here’s a blog post that will explain the difference.

  • UV RAYS

Although many of us love the sun, the sun can definitely have adverse affects on your hair. Just like your body needs protection from the sun, so does your hair.  UVB radiation is responsible for hair protein loss and UVA radiation is responsible for color changes. A heat protectant may protect your hair against the Suns potentially harmful Ray's. My favorite Leave In conditioner serves as a heat protectant, Moisture Mist, curl reactivator and it also protects against the sun's UVA and UVB Ray's.

  • Your curls will last longer.

Without the summer heat and high humidity beating down on your tresses, you have a higher probability of your curls lasting longer if you do decide to use heat to curl your hair.

  • Less chance of sweating

I shudder at the thought of getting my hair done and stepping outside and like a parachute my hair swells the minute I start to sweat a little. Well Autumn/ Fall Is the perfect season to try that Silk press you've always wanted because you won't be as prone to sweat in the low temperatures.

I really hope this has given you some insight into why heat styling is a better idea in the Autumn/ Fall season. I'd love to know, what's your go to style in the cooler seasons?

Until next time,
