Your Result: Install Prep
Let's get you ready for your install
A beautiful install starts with healthy hair underneath. Extensions add weight and tension, so your natural hair needs to be clean, moisturized, trimmed and strong enough to carry them. Every extension install begins with a consultation, where your hair is checked, your goals are discussed, and the right method is chosen.
Your four-week plan
- Week 1: Get your hair healthy. Deep clean and deep condition, and balance moisture and protein using your quiz result. Address any breakage first.
- Week 2: Trim if needed. Even, healthy ends make your install look better and last longer. Keep up your moisture routine.
- Week 3: Book your consultation and install. Extension hair is purchased separately from the install service, and tape-in hair is ordered during your consultation.
- Week 4: Prepare for your appointment. Come with clean, fully detangled hair. Skip heavy oils, butters and conditioners at the roots right before your appointment, because they can affect how extensions hold.
Aftercare that protects your hair
- Sleep in a satin bonnet or a loose braid to cut down on friction and tangling.
- Brush gently from the ends up, and never pull at the attachment points.
- Wash as your stylist directs, and keep heavy conditioners and oils away from the roots and bonds.
- Keep your maintenance appointments, typically every 6 to 8 weeks depending on the method, and never remove or slide extensions yourself without guidance.
Common problems and fixes
- My scalp hurts after my install. That can mean too much tension. Contact your stylist right away instead of waiting it out.
- I see shedding where the extensions attach. Normal daily shedding gets caught in the attachments, so some is expected. If it is heavy or your hair looks thinner, call your stylist.
- Will extensions damage my hair? Done correctly on healthy hair, they can be a protective style. Damage usually comes from too much tension, missed maintenance, or leaving them in too long.
